Piermont's Betsy Franco Feeney has been a creator of children's books for over 20 years, with emphasis on science related fiction. Learn the challenges and triumphs of creating engaging narratives for kids that also teach, and the importance of including footnotes to help parents answer questions with facts. Betsy will discuss her two award-winning books, Amoeba Hop, based on a song by her friend, Christine Lavin (the comedic folk writer/performer beloved of public radio fans for decades), and Jewels of the Sea, her new, scientifically vetted fiction about discovering diatoms -- jewel-like microorganisms that produce 25% of the oxygen we all breathe.
