Purpose

The purpose of the Blauvelt Free Library is to provide its patrons with the latest
cultural creations, such as books, movies, and music. The library achieves this
through its own extensive collection, as well as through collaboration with its
partner libraries in the Ramapo Catskill Library System.

The Blauvelt Free Library aims to help all of its patrons with any research requests
they might have, through the expertise of our reference staff.

The Blauvelt Free Library serves as a community nexus, where patrons can meet,
collaborate, plan, and create using the resources that the library is uniquely positioned
to provide.

Mission Statement

The Blauvelt Free Library fosters enrichment, education,
and community engagement by providing access to, and
connecting the public with, intellectual, cultural, and
recreational resources both on site and through outreach
initiatives.

Goals

The goal of the Blauvelt Free Library is to provide the public up-to-date and accurate print and electronic reference resources, access to online information resources, and expert assistance in using all of these. The Blauvelt Free Library will encourage the joy of reading and provide programs that stimulate thinking, enhance knowledge, and improve the quality of leisure time.

Technology

Library users will have access to current information technology in an easily accessible format, both within the library and from external sites. The library will provide hardware and software that accesses information quickly and supports changing software interfaces. The library will continually identify and evaluate electronic services and resources, and provide a trained and knowledgable staff to instruct effective public use of all materials.

Services to Adults

The community will have access to a collection of current and popular materials, in various formats. Residents will have access to a variety of programs that will enhance leisure time, stimulate thought, and expand knowledge.

Services to Children

The library will provide children of all ages with an array of materials and a variety of programs that will foster a love of reading and intellectual inquiry.

Staffing

Library staff will be able to meet the changing and varied library services that are needed in the community. The library will provide regular, comprehensive, hands on training to the staff on existing or new products and materials, as they become available, in order to instruct the public in its effective use.

Facilities Planning

The library will, as funding and technology permits, expand the facility to meet increased population growth to provide adequate public space. It will evaluate all aspects of the existing facility, including accessibility and safety, and improve the library's physical appearance.
