This is the first of an 8-week Veterans Writing Workshop presented by instructor, David Surface on Mondays at 6:30 pm, starting February 3rd. The course will be available free of charge to all veterans and currently serving service members. The library hopes to attract 12 students for the program.

The course is open to writers of all skill levels. New authors can benefit from weekly peer review and support from more seasoned scribes, while Mr. Surface draws upon 20 years of experience as a writing instructor to keep the literary "boat" on course. There are no rules about subject matter -- it can be about military experience, life afterward, or on any other topic.

After the last session on March 30, writings will be collected and published in an anthology by Veterans Writing Workshop. On Monday, May 4 at 6:30 pm, there will be a reception and story reading by the authors in the Library's Mary Behringer Wing. Refreshments will be served.

If you are interested in learning more, please come to the Introduction/Q&A with Mr. Surface on Monday, January 27 at 6:30 pm. He will explain what the Veterans Writing Workshop is and how it works. Several short videos will be shown. Registration is recommended but walk-ins are welcome.

This workshop is presented by Veterans Writing Workshohp in association with Bridges Independent Living Center, and partially funded by a grant from Ramapo Catskill Library System.

Registration is required. Phone us at 845 359-2811, or email bkoch@rcls.org to sign up.
