Our community room is available for meetings, programs, and other public uses. Please note that we often use the community room for our own programs, and so the room will be unavailable during certain dates and times. Please call the library to book the room.
Are you physically unable to travel to the library due to illness, age, or disability yet still wish to enjoy our services? If so, you can now receive books via the US Mail at absolutely no fee. We will send requested books to your Blauvelt residence in a postage paid mailing bag. When you are done, just mail them back in the pre-paid bag.
Contact us to sign up and receive more information on the delivery program.
This service is funded, in part, by a generous grant from the Library Association of Rockland County.
In our reference wing, we have a Clearview+ color CRT system, which was generously donated by the Blauvelt Lions Club. Simply place your book, magazine, newspaper, or crossword puzzle onto the reading platform and view the text on the screen magnified up to 50 times its original size. You can choose to read in full-color or in black and white to increase the contrast between the words and the page. The reading platform glides easily under your fingers so the book does not need to be repositioned.
Our public computers are equipped with Microsoft's built-in accessibility tools to make their use easier for any patrons who require it. The magnifier option splits the screen in half, and allows users to position a virtual magnifying glass over any part of the screen they wish to see more clearly. The narrator will read aloud the text that appears on the screen, guided by the mouse. Headphones are available at the circulation desk. The on-screen keyboard allows users to select their keyboard characters with the mouse rather than the physical keyboard.
These features can be accessed by clicking the the start menu button (the Windows logo in the lower left), selecting "All Programs" then "Accessories" and finally "Ease of Use." If you need assistance turning these features on, our staff would be happy to help you and teach you how to use it.

What better place for learning than the library? We permit tutoring on the premises anywhere there is an available space. There is no charge to tutors for this service, but we do urge tutor pairs to remain aware of other patrons and respect their need for a quiet space when necessary. As always, our librarians are at your service if an information need presents itself during a tutoring session.
